It took every ounce of control that I had to not drop the video camera and whip out a notepad to jot down these delightful Momzilla moments.
First, I witnessed a Momzilla ready her Little Champion for an artistic program to "Step In Time" from Mary Poppins, literally take a bagful of chalk dust and use an eraser to artfully pound chalk into the kid's costume to enhance the chimney sweep look. In truth, I should have whipped out the video camera, not a notepad, to capture the moment. Guerrilla journalists should really embrace the new technologies of the 21st century.
The second, and significantly more pathetic Momzilla moment occurred after the artistic event, when Momzilla said to her furry little cat, who sadly was not a champion today, "I know you're disappointed, but I just really need you to be strong for Daddy."
And that, my friends, was a step on the dark side of Zillaville. Sad, isn't it? Kind of like New Haven in the early 90's.
I am very happy to report that my own Little Champion had a good and a great skate, earned two medals, and was absolutely giddy with excitement after the second one. That, happily, was a leap to the other side of the Zillaville tracks. It was a good reminder that the true state of Little Champion is achieved when hard work results in a great personal performance and the glee that goes along with that -- and with picking up plush animals thrown on the ice after said performance.
On to the next day of Momzilla Mania! I can hardly wait...
